Attendance and Absences

Attendance Matters

New Mexico law dictates that:

  • Students between the ages of five (5) and eighteen (18) years of age are mandated to attend public school, private school, home school or a state institution. Daily Attendance is mandatory for students to benefit from the instructional program.

Therefore, in accordance with District guidelines, an absence may be excused for the following reasons:

-Medical appointments

-Death in the immediate family

-Family Emergency

-Religious Commitment

-Diagnostic Testing

and other circumstances as agreed to by the principal.

An unexcused absence is any absence that does not adhere to the prescribed district guidelines, is not school-related, if for family convenience or is not reported within two (2) school days. Excessive excused

  2. Check in at the office to receive a tardy slip.
  3. Return the tardy slip to the classroom teacher.

*Students are considered late if they arrive after the 8:30 bell has rung.

  • Students may be released to designated adults during school hours.
  • Adults are required to show photo identification.
  • Children will not be released during the school day to walk home alone.
